Lunchtime Prayer Meeting Debrief

Hello friends, what a leap year day meeting we had at the February edition of our online Lunchtime Prayer Meeting! If you missed it, fasten your seatbelt to enjoy the ride as I share some interesting scoops with you.

First, I cannot get over the insightful and inspiring moment at the prayer meeting tagged #prayformedia with the amazing Sarah Holloway and Chantelle Johnson who both took us on a storytelling journey with the timely topic on the ‘Art of Storytelling’ as Christian creators. While Sarah spoke on the importance of embracing other people’s perspectives without bias, Chantelle led us on why we need to look at the 'miracles in the mundane’, when sharing our stories, as opposed to relying on media trends.

Storytelling is powerful. We can change the mood of others and the environment around us by how we tell stories, and how we show about what Jesus has done, or is doing in our lives, they are so important to serve as encouragement for others.
— Sarah Holloway

Sarah Holloway, a multiple award-winning Filmmaker, Presenter, Author and Speaker pointed out that, when you are communicating a story, always remember everyone’s story is different and we all have unique and interesting perspectives about our journey and walk with God.

We have to exercise patience, by learning to listen to others without a preconceived bias to their perspectives. She also noted that, for as many as are willing to speak up, or write about their journey, with Christ, there are also people who feel limited because of the environment they live in, the work they do, or the issues they have to deal with daily. However, it is important to remember that no matter how vocal or restricted we are with the expressions of our stories, we are still part of an eternal story, which is the good news of knowing Jesus and having eternal life in him.

In between her reflective thoughts, Sarah also led us in a corporate prayer at intervals as she declared words over our lives. She prayed for ordering of steps in the jobs we take and the opportunities that comes to us, and that God will grant us the grace to make a difference as Christian creatives wherever we work.

Meanwhile, Chantelle Johnson, Premier Christian Radio Producer/Presenter & Vegan Vlogger, spoke on the beauty of local stories and how Jesus was in the community – that the healing in Luke 8:43-48 was a miracle in the mundane of everyday life

Chantelle encouraged us not lose sight of who we are in the world – we can form connections with people on an individual basis. to Then led us in a time of prayer for voices to come alive and be empowered with the spirit of boldness. That difficult stories could be shared with wisdom and Godly intent. And that God would ignite a fire in us to reflect his beauty, and through our roles share that God is good, God is hope and only he can transform our lives.

There is so much joy and power in the gospel of Jesus, and God is encouraging us on all platforms to be able to show these miracles and shine his light even in the mundane things, through the topics we address, and music we play on air, and the stories we write about that impact our day-to-day lives.
— Chantelle Johnson

It was also great having break out rooms so we could connect with one another and share our prayer needs in small groups. It was such a refreshing and reassuring faith exercise.

After the meeting I thought about how it is possible to become occupied with the demands of our daily lives and forget that God has placed us somewhere to serve, to speak up, and to advocate his Kingdom to others. We have the privilege of knowing the greatest story ever told, which the story of Jesus Christ, and based on our individual and collective narrative and perspectives, we can share in various ways to bless lives. I was reminded how John 14:26 talks about the Holy Spirit as, ‘…our helper.’ It is through our relationship with the Lord which gives understanding, insight, and revelation to aid us in our storytelling.

As I round up this debrief, a comment at the end summed up our time together. One of our members said ‘[Christians in Media] is an asset to this world, and I thank God for it.’ I share the sentiments with them. It was a privilege to fellowship with everyone who joined us. I am grateful to the charity, as I continue to enjoy the benefits that comes with being part of this community and serving as a volunteer.
